These patients enjoying the Laguna Beach sunshine in "Pool A" are typically animals who are nearing the end of their rehabilitation. These animals are again competing for food, their medical issues have been resolved, and many of them will soon be candidates for release back into the ocean.
*As of August 21, 2017, sea lion "Charmander" is spending time in "Pool A." In rare cases, we are unable to release an animal due to either severity of injury and length of rehabilitation. Such is the case with Charmander. You may see staff interacting with Charmander. Animals placed in human care must be comfortable around people who assist with their care. In these cases we interact with the animals purposefully so that they will flourish in human care and go on to be educational ambassadors for their species.
